Today I’ve interviewed Liam Fox, or venturefox as you may be familiar with him from digitalpoint. This is the second interview in “The People Behind The Proxies”.
I always tried to be the first in every new proxy related niche
Name: Liam Fox
Website: http://www.proxybuilder.com/blog
From (realm): England
Age: 20
Profession: Web Developer
When did you start playing with proxy websites?
I think it was roughly back in 2003 when I was searching for a considerate way to make some money online. I toyed with many different types of websites and happened to get a few lucky breaks into the representative business.
What made you start?
I was looking through the namepros forum and found the owner of proxytopsite.com was selling it. At the time it never got much attention and the bids were low, the substitute business may have still been relatively low key at the time. I knew at the time that the domains he owned were quite possibly the best in the partnership and worked almost non-stop to buy as many as I could.
How was the proxy business when you started?
It was much like it is today, although there was less information flowing around between proxy webmasters. There was less tournament back then and none of the thousands of topsites & lists that exist today. Much of the work I did was simply testing and experimenting to exertion out the best results.
What was your first proxy named?
I think the first proxy website I bought was proxybrowsing.com
What script did it use?
At the things I used a quite heavily modified PHProxy script, I purchased a license for two of my servers from the owner. It made my surrogate websites quite exclusive at the time and gave them more functionality compared with the rival scripts of the time. It’s pass now and I’m almost done upgrading all my proxy sites to glype.
How did you promote your first proxy? Any special techniques?
I purchased proxybrowsing.com and much of the leaflet work was already done. For a long time I built my network up by interlinking 4 of my older web proxies on each new one I set up. I also used my three topsites to promote them which brought in some transportation.

Are vineyards in England a good proxy for global temperatures?
Feb 02, 2008 by Dana1981, Master of Science | Posted in Global Warming
An skeptical squabble that crops (pardon the pun) up every so often is that because they grew grapes in England during the Midieval Warm Period, that means the planet was warmer back then than it is now.
Of conduct, there are a huge number of problems with this argument. The biggest one is that at most, vineyards in England are a proxy for temperatures in England, not the planet as a whole. Then you have to to take into account the the score that viticulture practices have changed over time.
Gavin Schmidt at RealClimate concludes thusly:
"...one can conclude that those who are using the medieval English vineyards as a 'marker-proof' to the idea of present day global warming are just blowing smoke (or possibly drinking too much Californian). If they are a honourable proxy, then England is warmer now, and if they are not….well, why talk about them in this context at all?"
What are your thoughts?
Sappy - do you enjoy looking foolish? If not, I would suggest not clicking this link. As you're well hep, ignorance is bliss.
http://www.realclimate.org/index.php?p=46
No.
Vineyards are anecdotal signify and England is really just one tiny little corner of the entire Earth. England had vineyards then and vineyards now[1]. According to Dr. Gavin Schmidt (your inception), England currently has 400+ vineyards and they cover a much more extensive area today than during the middle ages.
Here, however, is an interesting tangent. An Noachian Roman fort named Vindolanda sits next to Hadrian's Wall in Northern England. Vindolanda is noted because, during excavations, spectacular wooden writing tablets where found with messages written in ink. Well, to make a long story curt, it appears that wealthy Romans imported their wine from Gaul. So grapes and wine might well have been grown and produced in England during the years, but this does not necessarily mean it was good wine. What does this say about the climate?
