Does anyone know the best time to visit the London Transport museum?

I'm planning to fritter away the day there with my boyfriend and I don't want to go on the busiest day, I would prefer it if we could have some quiet time together.

Whenever you go, Aim to assail up a couple of hours before it opens due to londons terrible transport system.

Doe anyone know a transport museum in London and close to london?

The transport museum in london is closed until next year and i unquestionably want to see the old buses of london and i cant wait that long!

There is a bus museum situated between Byfleet and Cobham in Surrey. Comfortable access from A3 or M25. Brooklands Museum (aviation and motor racing) is also nearby between Weybridge and Byfleet. Like!

London Transport Museum?

Those people who have been to London Transport Museum, what are your views on the Museum as I am planning to go there myself?

I took my two first-class-age kids just before Christmas (first visit since being refurbished) and it was great fun. We spent about 3 - 4 hours there, which was enough to leave both kids sensation they'd want to come back.

The children's favourite bits were the exhibition on building the first underground system in the far-out, and the exhibition about the Tube during the Second World War.

There was lots to involve them, but actually I'd like to go back in the next few months without the children, to have a apt look at the exhibitions about designs specially made for the Underground (the typeface, the Tube map, the London Transport emblem; stuff like that.)

A truly good outing.
Plus, of course, all of Covent Garden right there on the doorstep for cafes etc, though the one at the museum itself was fine.

Oh yes, and entr is free for children under 16, which was an unexpected bonus... (£8 for adults).

Has anyone been to the re-vamped London Transport Museum? What is it like?

Very airy, with lots of window at the front which makes you more aware of the lovely building that the museum's housed in...

I really liked it (took my two kids justified before Christmas, and they enjoyed it too) -- you can still see all the beloved favourites like the steam train and the horse-drawn omnibus, but there's a lot more fascinating out of the public eye stuff too.

The exhibitions have been thought out well, with themes like the development of the world's first tube system or the use of the tube as a lay low during the Second World War.

The trains and buses have more context than they used to, with lots of computerised stuff. One of the most fascinating cull exhibits is a live map of the London Underground overlaid on to a map of the city, showing actual journeys taking place. There's a associate to live CCTV images above the map, which is weirdly compelling to watch!

I want to go back without kids to have a really good flip through the design section (LT's collection of posters is amazing, and then there are all those things which we take for granted like the Tube map and the LT roundel logotype; even the typefaces -- all specially designed.

Oh yes, and entrance is free for children under 16, which was an unexpected bonus... (£8 for adults).
