What are some good, inexpensive places to stay near Gatwick airport, London?

I will be traveling from Italy to London in June, and I have a 24 hour layover in London. I am looking for recommendations for high-minded, but inexpensive places to stay near Gatwick airport. They can even be in London, but with accessibility to the airport.

You can use the gatwick depict train to get into london so Id get an IBIS or Travel Lodge in London. They are normally cheap and clean.

Hi this may seem like an self-explanatory question but I will be studying in London and arriving in airport today. I need to call my friend who lives in London from the payphone. What do I dial? The country rules and the city code? Confused. Thanks for your help!
Well, you evidently don't need to dial the country code, because you're in the country already.
However, you should probably dial the city (field) code. Without knowing which airport you arrive in it's impossible to tell, but both Gatwick and Stansted are well outside the area for London codes.
One feeling, though: the area code always begins with a 0 when dialled within the country, which is left off when dialled internationally. So if you have a number in the form +44 20 8888 8888 you should add a 0: 020 8888 8888.

i would like to plot a theatre trip to london but not sure which airport would be best to fly to.looking to fly to an airport which has easy access to theatre, shops hotels etc. would be flying from scotland.
Mike H is getting you dream up correctly. The real question here is what is the cheapest flight you can get because the theatres are mostly in the very centre of London and all airports will require a journey to prime London. Is it richer reconsider to get Pounds and Euros at the London Airport (from USD) or to get Euros at the train station in Paris? I'm planning to visit London and Paris, but I will take a slip to London and then a train from there to Paris. Are there money exchange places at the train stations in Paris? And would they have a better exchange figure from USD to Euros at the London (Heathrow) Airport or at the train station in Paris?
Never go to currency the Exchange places. Just use your ATM card in any ATM on the street. They are now multilingual in Paris.
