Most libraries have expanded into having a local heritage detachment so see them first.

How safe are is Southwark, London? What about Camden? Has anyone visited St. Christopher's hostels there?

My fiance and I are customary to London on our honeymoon but we can't exactly afford the Ritz. I was looking at St. Christopher's Inn hostel in Southwark or the Camden London hostel. I upstanding want to make sure I'm in a reasonably safe neighborhood (nothing fancy, just OK). What can you tattle me about these areas?

Southwark is OK. You can have the Bishop of London as a neighbour! and it's very leading

Camden is multi-ethnic and further from the centre, might be a little cheaper.

Both are fairly safe.

If you can get a decent hotel trade then go for Southwark.

How is the Peckman Neighborhood in Southwark London? ?

Six Americans succeeding on vacation. Is this a safe area? Been reading about allot of crime in Southwark.

Ok, first..its not "Peckman", its Peckham (pronunced "peck-um").

Traditionally, its amongst the poorest and most disadvantaged areas in London. And of course that means its crime statistics are higher than normal...but it DOESN'T mean that its very rickety...just have some street smarts and you'll be fine. Its old traditional London working class community now coexists agreeably with communities that have their origins in Bangladesh, the Caribbean, China, India, Ireland, Nigeria, Pakistan, Turkey, Eastern Europe and Vietnam. As well as these communities, there has been a uniform "gentrification" of some of the areas just to the south of Peckham and this has meant an influx of little cafés, wine bars, slot shops and artists' studios. Its a pretty cool and gritty area...if you dont go expecting Knightsbridge then you wont be balked. Its much more like the real London than any of the posh or fancy areas.
