Why do many people think that London and Londoners are very boring?

Although, I`ve never been to
london I wouldn`t get along there because of all negative comments. Only people can make the place boring or attractive.

I am 32, have lived in London for 7 years and travelled the earth, yet I have NEVER heard anyone accuse London of being boring. Lots of people dislike the place for the hectic buzz, the dirt, the people, the crowds etc, but never tiresome. Who have you been talking to?

If you find London boring, then you find cities boring. You can find, do and buy anything here and it is one of the world's greatest cities. So, my advice: make your own mind up.

What would you say the movie 'Brick Lane' says about that area of London and Londoners in general?

The pic 'Brick Lane' based on the Novel by Monica Ali..How does the film manipulate our image of London..What feelings does it play the part..?

The ground of London where Brick Lane is heavily populated by ethnic minority groups, particularly Bangladeshi muslims. Shows that London, in defiance of being the capital of England, has many residents of non-British heritage. The film demonstrates that this is sometimes easy for people (like the daughters seem to have intergrated well at high school) but sometimes it causes problems, like the wife is not allowed to do much without her husband so experineces loneliness, or the way white Brits are horribly racist and absolute after Sep 11th.
I think it gives a snapshot into a particular area of London life, but there are obviously many muslims here which are more intergrated, yknow like women who are doctors etc and have a more fifty-fifty relationship with their husbands. I think the film is not tyring to say that ALL of the Bangladeshis-muslims in Brick Lane live like this. Good makes a point about this particular family.
Nice scenes of the city, like when she compares the tower exclude to a castle tower and she being a princess (if I rememmber rightly) in a letter to her sister back home. This area one of the most heavily populated by Sylheti Bangladeshis, so field is full of thier influence- food and clothing shops for example. To the north in Bethnal Green is a large community of hisidic Jew, showing how culturally mixed the East End of London is.
Hope this helps

how many londoners support a football team not from london?

should all the londoners stand by a london based team?in italy where i'm from there are plenty of juventus supporters in milan and plenty more ac milan supporters in turin

they should underwrite london teams but they are called glory hunters......................................

Why all the rich londoners live in North London?

I am a surveyour, for the recent 3 months i have been working in North London. I had never seen such beautiiful homes and millions of sexy 4x4 and Lexuses in other areas of London. There are some in Holland Garden and Kensington but the number of which is not comparable to North London.

I about that great care has been taken in North London to preserve parks and green areas. That is perhaps some indication of the type of yourselves who inhabits the area. There are areas which are so delightfully rural that one can forget that one is in London (try Totteridge, if you haven't already seen it!)

I am amazed, by the way, that Fantazamaraz, the man who grew up in London, never noticed that St John's Wood and Hampstead were in North London!

what are people from lincoln, uk called collectively? i.e. people from London are called Londoners?

I advised of people from London are called Londoners, but what are people from Lincoln called?

Thanks in advance.

Im from Lincolnshire and we are known as the yellow bellies as we have been for a covet time. The reason were known as yellow bellies has been disputed for a long time but some of the explanations are :

The officers of the Majestic North Lincolnshire Militia used to wear bright yellow waistcoats
The uniforms of the old Lincolnshire Standardize were green with yellow facings. The fastenings of the uniform tunic, which were known as frogs, were also yellow.
A species of newt, frog or eel (there is discrepancy on this point) found in the Lincolnshire Fens had yellow undersides.
It is a derogatory name, implying that the Fen-dwellers creep around in the mud, and so get yellow bellies.
Opium extracted from poppy heads, and infatuated to relieve malaria that was prevalent in the fens in earlier centuries, turned the skin a shade of yellow.
Sheep grazing in mustard fields were dusted by pollen from the blossom that turned their undersides yellow. Alternatively, the hanker under wool of sheep grazing in the Lincolnshire Wolds became discoloured by the yellow clay. (Neither of these can be considered a unique affair in Lincolnshire however)
Women traders on street markets in past times are reputed to have worn a leather apron with two pockets, one for copper and flatware and one for gold. At the end of a good day they would say they had 'a yellow belly' meaning they had taken a large number of gold sovereigns.
The usage is based on the old belief that if a person born in Lincolnshire placed a shilling on their abdomen on retiring to bed and slept certain on their back all night, then the next morning the shilling would have turned into a gold sovereign.
The stage coaches that operated in Lincolnshire in times history had yellow body work.
The term originated from Elloe, the name of the rural deanery that serves the fen area of the Lincoln Diocese. This in roll took its name from the Saxon Wapentake which was referred to as Ye Elloe Bellie - Elloe meaning out of the morass while bel was the Celtic discussion for hole or hollow.
Less reputable inhabitants of Cleethorpes may have engaged in a form of piracy. They took torches down to the margin on dark nights and used them to trick passing ships into sailing towards the lights believing it to be the harbour. The ships would hit the skin-deep waters on the Cleethorpes coast and run aground where they would be raided for their cargo. On one occasion the locals are supposed to have believed they had lured a dispatch whose cargo had great value, but when they found the cargo was actually a vast amount of yellow flannel material. They could not be seen selling or using the fabric they had stolen so in order not to waste it they made undergarments out of it, so many of the locals were soon in possession of flannel vests and became yellow bellies

Some people refer to people from Lincoln as the imps, but this only refers to lincoln borough football club.

I hope this has resolved your question

Regards Jon
