Bmi cutting unprofitable domestic and other services

Bmi will be shutting down its links connecting airports in the north of England with London, after providing maintenance on the routes for four decades.

On 28 March, the carrier will discontinue all flights on routes from Leeds/Bradford and Durham Tees Valley airports to London Heathrow.

Bitter these two domestic routes is part of the changes to bmi’s summer schedule.

The frequency on the Heathrow to Amsterdam route is being reduced to four everyday flights and the Heathrow to Dublin link is being cut back to six flights per day.

“The decision to withdraw services between London and the North of England was a inflexible one, as we have operated these routes since 1969,” a statement issued by the airline said.

“However a decline in demand, higher-than-inflation set someone back increases at Heathrow and higher government Air Passenger Duty (APD) charges have made operating these routes unsustainable.”

Bmi will modify its services to Addis Ababa to times weekly, while increasing the number of flights to Beirut and Amman to ten times weekly, start on 22 May.

UK couple on Venezuela holiday arrested for cocaine smuggling

A link from the UK, who were on holiday in Venezuela with their children, have been charged with attempting to leave the country carrying cocaine worth millions of pounds in their suitcases.

Paul and Laura Makin and their four children were mobile on a First Choice package holiday to Margarita Island, off Venezuela, when the couple was arrested at Porlamar airport.

It is stated that they were found carrying 24kgs of the illegal drug in secret compartments in three of their suitcases, as they were attempting to board their flight back to London earlier this week.

The four was detained, and the four children, ages two to eight, were taken into care.

On Thursday night the four children, who had been in foster care, were reunited with household members who travelled to Margarita after hearing news of the couple’s arrest.

The street value of the cocaine is said to be usefulness in the range of £1.2 million to £9 million.

Councillor Brian Kenny, who is the chairman of governors at the grammar attended by one of the children, Mersey Park Primary, said: “It is obviously a very traumatic situation for the children – the whole position sounds really horrific.”

John Wheate, the Makins’ solicitor, commented that he was working on the repatriation of the children.

Are there any London car rental companies who rent cars to newly qualified drivers?

I have been looking for a car rental entourage but all of the companies i have come across want you to have held your license for at least 12 months and i only have mine for 6 months. Any ideas?

All the car rental companies that I checked insist that you have held your drivers license for a minimum of one year.

When I flew in from DFW I was met by Gatwick Car Rentals, they have a fitting and greet service straight off the plane.
U can choose the make b4 u arrive.

Have a voyage to London and Normandy planned next week. I am from Canada and the car rental/booking phone lines are all seperate.

I'm wondering if anyone had any experiences renting a car in London and driving it into France. I've been planning on driving to Normandy. Will reparation the car back in London. Don't have access to overseas calling at the moment so can't call the office in question personally

I would like to start renting cars over the weekend but it would be a hassle to go to a rental core to collect the vehicle and then back again to return it.

When you hire out a car, loads of forms have to be completed, and most places now take your photo in case of fraud, so it seems unlikely someone will do this at your house. Why not look in Yellow Pages and induce a few phone calls?
