CHRISTMAS IN ENGLAND! what kind of food do you eat? can you give me RECIPES?

I have to disgorge a food and drink to a party this weekend that represents England at Christmas. (i have to make it, but i don't know what to make) can anyone help me upon out what to bring? the party is going to be in the morning at 11am.

Here's a orientation about English Christmas Dinner:

http://www.woodlands-junior.kent.sch.uk/customs/Xmas/dinner.html

You could try mince pies - principled use sweet shortcrust pastry filled with mincemeat from a jar, and place a pastry lid on top.

Mulled wine is a angelic drink, and we often serve it with mince pies. You can make it as strong or weak as you like, or even make it with non-alcoholic wine, and it goes a extensive way.

How has the book " A Christmas Carol" effected Christmas in England?

How has the laws "A Christmas Carol" by Charles Dickens effected the customs of Christmas in England? What customs did they have before and after this book was published?
Thanks, but i looked at all of these web pages but found nothing! Could big noise please help me!

I recall that some of the traditions and customs portrayed in A Christmas Carol had waned in England and elsewhere when Charles Dickens wrote his story. This book revived those traditions and brought Christmas back to the forefront as the most critical holiday.

Read through http://www.brandywinemuseum.org/news_print/news050_print.html - which has some captivating information.

This site http://www.talkingto.co.uk/ttcd/html/ttcd_answ_scat.asp?CatID=179&AuthorID=5 is positively interesting, too.

You may find some useful information here http://www.markdroberts.com/htmfiles/resources/christmasdickens.htm

If you want to find more information about it, put something like "A Christmas Carol bring pressure to bear on on Christmas traditions" in a Google search. I know there were quite a few PDF files that came up.

***Addition: Check http://charlesdickenspage.com/christmas.html which tells you that Christmas celebrations were in diminution before Charles Dickens wrote A Christmas Carol.

Also check http://news.minnesota.publicradio.org/features/2005/12/24_gilbertc_historyxmas/ which states, in part: ""There's a demonstrably nostalgic tone to Dickens' celebration of Christmas," Jordan says, "and I think it's associated with a sympathetic of fantasy of an ideal childhood."

"And through the wild popularity of his stories, Dickens' fantasies, to some territory, became a reality. It wasn't just that Dickens made Christmas more popular. He changed it."

"John Jordan gives Dickens confidence for helping turn Christmas into a family-centered holiday, and associating it with charity for the poor. Bruce Forbes says even some of the scoff we eat at Christmastime can be traced back to Charles Dickens."

Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Christmas_Carol has some more knowledge that may be helpful.

This may help http://www.mentalfloss.com/blogs/archives/3359 - it's entitled "How Charles Dickens saved Christmas."

This plat http://www.victorianvanities.com/Dickens/Christmas_Carol.html may help a bit, too.

If all else fails, read the reviews (and perhaps purchase the libretto) of http://www.amazon.com/Dickens-Christmas-Celebration-Simon-Callow/dp/0810945347 - Dickens' Christmas: A Victorian Fete by Simon Callow.

I hope this helps.

With so many pagans, atheists and muslims in England, is Christmas a bigi holiday there?

In the States, Christmas is like no other fete. Of cousre, it is Christ's birthday, so we celebrate by getting ourselves millions of dollars in debt. England is not so born again Christian like now-a-day, so what do you all do on December th 25th?

Apologetic, can't think why mike sanders was so rude to you! Must be scrooge.
For some strange reason the post office came up with a precise theme this year for the christmas postage stamps and it is nice to think that our government who control the post office have realised that the dialogue christmas actually starts with CHRIST. I,m not overly religious but i do believe in god so we generally go to church (York Minster) on christmas eve, have dinner out afterwards, have a big one's nearest lunch on christmas day followed by a big open-house party on boxing day. We really enjoy being with people and christmas is sometimes the only time we can all be together. Have a sharp one and ignore the bah! humbug! brigade.

what do people in england wear for christmas?

okay, i ball and im in the company there too and some of my friends and i decieded we would dress up for it like some others like to do. One of my friends decided to do a theme and that was wearing christmas clothes (or another respite) that they wear another country. we picked one out of a hat and i got England and im not really sure what the wear in england like on Christmas... i know from some friends that it's a crumb diff. but how? so if anyone has any ideas please tell me thanks!

Lets be upright, there isn't really any difference in what we wear in england and what you wear in america at christmas (I'm guessing you're from america)
I'm pretty sure that your santa and our santa look the same, so it would be unquestionable to tell what country you were supposed to be from if you dressed up as santa...
Dress up in lots of clothes, scarves and gloves and jackets and thrust, but wear an english flag or something... I'm sorry, thats kind of lame, but its the best answer I can give you!

does christmas in england really cause offence to other religons?

Who thinks its immediately that people who have come over to England from different countries should start dictating how we celebrate christmas and how we run our country.
I don't think these laws should mutate for the minority of foreigners who have immegrated over here when us citezens have lived here all our lives why should we change?
What are your views?
I totally agree with blondie I thimk England oversight lets just about anyone in to our country

It's witty how we live in a country that you are free to worship whoever you want, but you aren't allowed to celebrate it publicly if you are the best part. If Christians and non-christians can't publicly celebrate Christmas, let's have NO religion celebrate anything publicly. That is the common quick-wittedness solution right. But too bad Labour and people with half a brain are too politically correct and dont have enough plain vulgar sense. By the way, Muslims are offended by everything, even lower case "t" offends them because it looks like a splenetic. If we facilitate every dislike and let it dictate our lives, we are not short from reverting back to medievalism. Can you imagine using the english tongue without the "t"? hink abou ha
