Could anyone please inform me as to whats the typical living cost in Northeast England (Newcastle or Darlington) would be? I will be relocating from US to UK and my company is offering me about $66,000 / year (which would be around 40,000 pounds as of now). Should this be enough for 2 (me and my wife)?
What are the other things I should keep in mind while making a deal with my company?
Thanks for your help

How do I find out about the cost of living in England ?
Feb 18, 2006 by I Love Computers ! | Posted in London
I beloved England and have visited there, years ago. I am American. Have lived in U.S.A. all my life. I have a blue collar job and some college education. Where could I gather word to find out if I could afford to live in England and what kind of work I could get there as an American citizen residing in England ?
It's mignonne expensive to live here right now and getting more expensive by the day! We pay over £4 for a gallon of diesel for my Audi, in the USA that would be over $7 a gallon!
Our spirit costs have risen substantially over the past year and British Gas are about to hike their prices by ANOTHER 22%...pretty hideous really especially for those on a fixed income like the pensioners are.
There are many more people from here now relocating to distance shores and we (partner and I) are seriously looking to relocate to New Zealand...a lot are doing it because it's warmer where they are going to not just because of the cost of living here.
Here is one site that you can take a look at to get some doctrine of comparitive costs with where you are now:
http://www.workgateways.com/working-cost-of-living.html
This is basically for the London area which, being the capitol, is apt to to be very expensive....there are lots of "cheaper" areas....where I am in West Yorkshire for starters!
Having said all this, if you exceptionally want to come to England then give it a go. This IS a beautiful country with lots to see and do....we have such a rich and varied history that you can completely squander yourself in it....so many places to see...so many things to do.
Whatever you decide to do, I wish you all the very best for your future.

Which area in England has a low cost of living and cheapest flat/room rates monthly?

I'm from the Philippines and will be studying in England. As I've researched, London has a shrill cost of living. So I am wondering which area in England has a low cost of living and how much is the cheapest flat/room rate per month? Your answer would really be a big help. Hold responsible you!
sheffield is in the end reasonable. Its cheap and friendly. Has lots of different cultures, great night life, and its safe :)

Cost of living in England for a foreigner?
Sep 25, 2006 by Zoe G | Posted in Other - United Kingdom
The next semester, I will start a Past master's course in England. Realistically, how much do I need to live on? I don't have extravagant tastes, but I do want clean, reliable housing, and I like going out. I don't usually spend much on clothes.
Europe is dear compared to America. The UK ranks right up there as one of the most expensive of all European countries, especially in London and the South East. The further North you go, typically speaking, the cheaper the cost of living, though most things are pricer than you would be used to at home. Public transport, taxis, petrol and contest a car are more expensive than almost anywhere else in Europe, as are clothes, food, CDs, electrical items and almost anything else you can think of, and I doubt you would get much change out of £50 a week for a central room somewhere, without accounting for electric bills etc, though if you can share with other students then this helps bring the costs down.
Most students end up funding their studies with a part-period job, typically at a pub or bar or at a local supermarket, most of whom have a high turnover of students going through their doors. You'd need at least £200 a week to charged on I think outside of London, maybe twice as much inside.
