London’s Exuberant Street Art Scene (I)

shoreditch postersLast weekend I unwavering to extend my cool hunting beyond the usual digging of the search engine ditches and hit the streets of East London to involvement its booming street art scene for the very first time.

I wasn’t in the mission on my own, as I joined a two dozens of art hungry bloggers on a Drive Art tour around Shoreditch, which was extremely lucky of me as I was given a crash course in street art by a graffiti whizz kid Michael Vandalong and a in residence Art expert Romain of Fubiz . As a result I discovered street art in the form of graffiti ( D*Face, Unassuming Toof, Sickboy and Eine), stencils (Banksy, TEK13) , posters (Obey, Jim Cereal and Mike Marcus), mosaics (Invader) last but not least paintings from Barry McGee and Patr2ism.

The drive was part of a wider campaign called Gofindit from Ford Ka, which aims to encourage people to explore the city beyond justifiable the obvious.

As a final note, I’d like to give massive thanks to Robin and Sandrine at We Are Social for bringing in an dazzling Art and Mars bar filled afternoon. You can see eclectic mix of photos from our tour on Flickr and a short video clip below.

If you’re interested in organising your own circle art tour, please be sure to visit StreetArtLocator , a google street art map mashup for a start.

Pictures from London

A doxy sent me these pictures of the snowstorm aftermath in London where travel has become problematic. В I suspect it will all melt eventually and barely be wet and gray, if only that happened here. В Can you imagine if London had our winter? В Yikes.

Where can I find elevations for buildings in London?

I am part of a duo designing a public art piece to be constructed in London. Part of the content is based on elevations from sea level. Where can I get topographical maps of london or find elevations for peculiar locations?

Where can I find o-ring seal around London?

My espresso automobile requires new o-ring rubber (or silicone, I don't know) seal. It's not a stove-top device for which oceans of seals available online. It's Woolworths own brand - Elevation and they say they don't have any spares for it.

I was pretty happy with the gizmo while it was working so I don't want to buy a new one if 15 pence seal is the solution.

The problem is that I cannot describe exactly what I need (the seal itself is not just a unostentatious ring). I need to bring the old seal to a store with large range of o-ring seals on sale and say "I shortage to replace this one". Is there such a store in London? I tried DIY and plumbing supplies, but they weren't able to help me.
R-r-correctly. Thanlks for the answers, but let me clarify: I'm looking for retail store where I could come in and ask for "this thing". I have found a sort of o-ring suppliers that will be happy to manufacture a seal up to my specifications and sell me a pack of 45000. That's not unerringly what I need.

Search for "industrial supply gaskets London" yields pretty much nothing useful.

Thanks in proceed!
Guys, you are great! Thanks a lot for the feedback!

I think I need to clarify again: it's far from being just "o-resound", it is plain on one side and round on the other, it has a slit along the middle for a metal thing to fit into and a whole lot of features that are hard for me to explain. I tried to model it, but the images are quite unclear and my drawing skills are limited.

It's likely that I'll be able to mutate an usual o-ring into something that would fit for the purpose, but I'm not sure about that and that's why I'd like to show the thing to a specialist first.

Anyway, if aeroplane o-ring could be used for this machine, it would be of 2''24 outer diameter and 2'' inner diameter ring correct for food processing, able to handle high temperatures and pressure (15 bar).

P.S. I will visit Pirtek, they are closed. Thanks for the hint!

If you have a look in yellow pages for your native hydraulic supply companies (Hose manufactures (Pirtek for example)). Head down there with the espresso gizmo and they will be able to find the correct size of "O" ring for you. Typically the hydraulic guy's have large "O" crew sets that have an assortment of different sized "O" rings.

How does elevation affect the carbonation of soft drinks?

I’ve been told that in degree to maintain carbonation, the solution is dependent on two things: first, a cold temperature; second, high pressure. While a warmer temperature is certainly antithetical to the maintenance of carbonation, it isn't nearly as imperative as the aspect of pressure. Provided pressure is maintained, a amiable soda will continue to be carbonated.Knowing that atmospheric pressure declines as altitude increases, it would seem to make sentiment that a soda opened in the mountains would go flat faster than one opened in New Orleans (which, I believe, is about 9 feet below sea level), or that the same soda opened in the mountains of the San Gabriel Valley would do so at a more alacritous rate than one opened in London, England. However, when I was in England, I noticed that my sodas almost invariably lost their carbonation faster than they did back in the States. Am I agley in my estimation of England's altitude, or am I missing something about air pressure's relation to soda?

You're not amiss about the alititude, but there's one variable you missed: how much carbonation is put into the soda in the first place. If there wasn't as much to start with, then of passage the soda will go flat faster. It could just be that in the UK, they don't bottle sodas with as much carbonation as in the USA.

Relation between deaths from cholera and residence elevation above sea level?

Here is a tabulation on death from Cholera in 10.000 inhabitants by Elevation of Residence above Sea Level, London, 1848-1849

Elevation above sea level(ft.): <20 , Deaths in 10.000 inhabitants: 120

Elevation above sea smooth out(ft.): 20-40 , Deaths in 10.000 inhabitants: 65

Elevation above sea level(ft.): 40-60 , Deaths in 10.000 inhabitants: 34

Elevation above sea level(ft.): 60-80, Deaths in 10.000 inhabitants: 27

Elevation above sea unfluctuating(ft.): 80-100, Deaths in 10.000 inhabitants: 22

Elevation above sea level(ft.): 100-120, Deaths in 10.000 inhabitants: 17

Elevation above sea level(ft.): 340-360, Deaths in 10.000 inhabitants: 8

Can someone please delineate to me the relation between dying from cholera and sea level?

Thank you very much!!

The closer you survive to see the more deaths result from cholera. Look at how many are at 20 feet (120) compared to 340-360 above seas with. So the people in london who lived closer to seas level in 1848-1849 got more cholera.
